About us

Our story began with an Entrepreneur, an Accountant, a Chemist and a Futurist having a braai under the African Sky. We discussed our shared frustration with digital security, noting in particular the alarming prevalence of password reuse and its detrimental effects on digital safety. We couldn't help but chuckle nervously as we realised we were all guilty of this risky habit. With passwords and other traditional digital security solutions becoming outdated due to hackers growing smarter, we realised that a different approach was required. We decided to boldly go where no man has gone before by asking the simple question: “What if we just got rid of passwords altogether?”

This led to the official establishment of Synapser as a company in 2019. With our suite of innovative technology, we have made it our mission to help you live safely in a digital world.

 

Meet the Team


Brian Henderson

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

Brian is a seasoned IT applications professional with over 35 years of experience in senior roles at reputable organisations like IBM and Reuters. His expertise lies in delivering technology solutions that drive commercial effectiveness and operational efficiency while addressing client business concerns.

Brian has a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams, and has successfully developed and sold start-up businesses, including a web-based pharmacy management system used by the NHS, Olympic, Para Olympic, and Commonwealth Games medical teams.

 

Ross Joughin

Chief Commercial Officer & Founder

Ross is an industry pioneer passionate about people, relationships and how technology can enable human advancement. He is a highly driven individual, having spent the past 23 years successfully leading Sales and Marketing in IT Distribution, System Integration, and Technology vendors. 

With extensive technology experience across many industries, he brings a robust, holistic perspective to hardware and software environments.

 

David Roome

Chief Operations Officer & Founder

David is a results-driven professional based in Durban, South Africa, with 28 years of diverse experience in digital transformation, supply chain, logistics, and demand planning. He is known for his strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving abilities.

With a BSc in Chemistry and Chemical Sciences from Wits University and a Master’s in Philosophy from University of Pretoria, David is an expert in systems design, change management, and digital transformation.

He is committed to ongoing learning and professional development, staying at the forefront of his field. David is highly collaborative, a skilled communicator, and passionate about helping organisations achieve their goals.

 

Craig Jones

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER & FOUNDER

Craig is a Chartered Accountant CA (SA) having qualified with Ernst & Young in 1998. He has over 20 years of commercial experience, including 2 years at Dresdner Bank in London. He returned to Ernst & Young for 4 years in their financial consulting division. Craig was the Financial Director for Mr Price Clothing, a listed retailer on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange for 12 years. 

Besides finance, his role at Mr Price also included overseeing new business development and growth of the retailer into new territories in the Southern Hemisphere, including Africa and Australia, with a strong focus on logistics. Craig understands the requirements for starting new businesses and adds to the team his experience in finance, structure, market research, planning and new business growth.

 

Dries Oelofse

CHIEF DATA OFFICER & DIRECTOR

Dries completed his undergraduate BSc degree in Microbiology Sciences, and a postgraduate master’s in bioinformatics’, at the University of Pretoria. He achieved Cum Laude on completion of a master’s in business administration at the University of Stellenbosch.

He is passionate about exponential technologies and how they are applied in a business context. These include the digital technologies driving the 4th industrial revolution; AI, Cloud Computing, IoT, Big Data, and other transformative technologies in biotechnology.

With diverse experience in both digital and physical context, Dries brings critical knowledge and insight on how to maximise technology to drive transformation for clients who want to take advantage of these technologies to drive transformation.

 

Michael Falkson

HOD - Project management office

Mike is a dedicated father of three wonderful children and cherishes the title of Dad above all others. He is also an accomplished professional with a passion for project management and team facilitation.

Mike is a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master, Project Facilitator, and Trainer, having graduated in 1990 with a post-graduate diploma in Industrial Relations. With over twenty years of experience in guiding project teams on their journey from idea to shelf, Mike has worked with large blue-chip multinationals such as Unilever, RCL Foods, and Pioneer Foods, as well as in industries as diverse as Agriculture, Travel and Tourism, and Advertising, in both Africa and Europe.

He thrives in a team environment and has received accreditation as a Gallup Accredited Strengths Coach, helping others to identify their unique talents and achieve their full potential. Mike's positive attitude, passion for life, and dedication to his family and career make him a true inspiration to those around him.

 

Toni Monty

HOD - Commercial Services & Documentation

A seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in media and communications, Toni’s expertise lies in designing and implementing strategies that drive growth and innovation. Some of her achievements include the Durban Film & Television Sector Strategy, the Digital Durban strategy and founding Africa's first Film and Television Co-production Market. She also led the first online co-production market during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is a testament to her ability to navigate complex challenges with ease.

Toni is a law graduate specialising in intellectual property, and is a recognized industry leader in the creative industries, having served on the board of directors for the Encounters Training Institute, and as a director on the board of the KwaZulu Natal Film Commission and the board of the KwaZulu Natal Music Cluster, KUMISA. As the Head of Commercial Services and Documentation for Synapser Group, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.

 

Lisa Van Deventer

HOD - Customer Management

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Lisa has a proven track record in sales roles, particularly in the IT and CCTV industry, and holds diplomas in Public Relations, Marketing and Legal Secretarial, and Creative Writing.

Lisa is known for delivering the best solutions for clients and measuring her success by the enthusiasm of the Synapser team and customers.

She has a deep understanding of processes, excellent communication skills, and is skilled in collaborating with teams to deliver exceptional results for Synapser's customers.
